MDs for public plan
A strong majority of doctors favor giving patients a choice between public and private insurance, a survey published in the New England Journal of Medicine revealed. Sixty-three percent of the doctors polled supported incorporating a public option into health care reform legislation. Another 10% went further: they supported a single-payer system. Strong support was evident among primary care providers, specialists, urban and rural doctors, and members of the American Medical Association, which is officially opposed to the public option.
